What is Addition?
Addition is putting numbers together to make a bigger number!
When we add, we combine things to find out how many there are altogether. It's like when you have some
toys and get more toys for your birthday - we add them together to see how many you have now!
How to Add
1️⃣ Count the first group of items
2️⃣ Count the second group of items
3️⃣ Count all the items together to find the total!
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Fruit Counting
Count the apples and bananas, then add them together!

Apples: 2

Bananas: 3
How many fruits are there altogether?
Example 2: Number Line Jump
Let's use a number line to add 3 + 2:
0
1
2
3
4
5
Start at 3, then jump 2 more spaces. Where do you land?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use everyday objects like toys or snacks to practice addition - "If you have 2 crackers and I give you 2 more, how many do you have?"
- Make it a game by using dice or playing cards with numbers 1-5 to create simple addition problems.
- Celebrate small victories with high-fives or stickers to keep your child motivated and excited about math!
